EAT! (Decorating my kitchen)

Eat sign two

Like any good aspiring foodie, I find myself watching a lot of cooking and food television. Not long ago, on an episode of Alton Brown's Good Eats I saw a retro looking sign in the background that I suddenly wanted for my kitchen.

So i set about finding this online and found something really similar here. I really liked it but $50 bucks, plus shipping seemed pretty steep for three letters. So I set out to make my own. I bought wood letters for $1.99 at Michael's and a mini spray bottle of high gloss red spray paint for about $3.

It took just a few minutes to paint the letters. They dried overnight.

In addition, a few days before my desire to have an Eat sign, my sister talked me into buying a giant fork and spoon at Hobby Lobby. I didn't know what I was going to do with them, but I thought they would be the perfect accent to my letters.

They were already black, and I don't have a lot of black in my kitchen, so I spray painted them antique bronze to match the hardware. I think I'm the only one that can tell a difference.

The next morning I hung up my new sign. It doesn't feel as retro-cool as Alton's but it was clearly more affordable. I think the more classic letters match the house a little better and best of all it's completely unique.
